A description is given of a photovoltaic module comprising a plurality of series-connected panel strings and comprising module string lines for passing electrical energy out of the photovoltaic module, wherein at least one first panel string generates the supply voltage for an electronic system integrated into the photovoltaic module, wherein each panel string is assigned at least one controllable switch which is embodied as a MOS-FET by the electronic system and by which the respective panel string can be electrically bridged, and wherein at least one controllable switch embodied as a MOS-FET by the electronic system is provided which, in the closed state, connects a terminal of the first panel string to a module string line, wherein a diode is disposed in parallel with the series circuit formed by the panel strings, and wherein the supply voltage is fed to the electronic system via a DC/DC converter. A description is additionally given of a photovoltaic installation comprising such photovoltaic modules. In the event of total shading of a photovoltaic module, the diode prevents the occurrence of high power losses at the parasitic diodes of the MOS-FETs.
