Title:
A PICTURE FRAME
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1981/000667
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A picture frame comprising a symmetrical frame profile (1) with two recesses (2, 3). Both recesses may be used as means for inserting a picture or as means for mounting corner joints, suspension fittings, and upright fittings. The shape of the frame profile implies that both sides of the frame may be used as front, and only one cutting per frame side is necessary for shaping the frame. Therefore one picture frame permits choosing between two different visual angles of the frame. Furthermore, the frame may be used as a turnable frame with a picture on both sides. Such a frame is moreover easy to manufacture at the same time as waste of material is avoided. A suspension of the frame by means of a ball (8) surrounded by a cord (9) implies that the picture frame permits adjustment of the height from a permanent suspension point.

Description:
Title: A Picture Frame Technical Field

The invention relates to a picture frame comprising a frame profile.

Background Art

The previous picture frames have been manufactured by means of profiles forming the front and the back, respec¬ tively, of the frame in such a manner that the picture could only turn to one side- The back of the frame was used for mounting of corner joints, suspension fittings, and upright fittings. The corner joints were usually mitred. However, the mitering required two cuttings per frame side and implied a waste of material due to the cuttings perpendicular to each other.

Disclosure of Invention

The picture frame according to th-e invention is charac¬ terised by the frame profile optionally being substan¬ tially symmetrical about a longitudinal axis and compris¬ ing two longitudinal recesses for insertion of a picture and mounting of a corner joint, suspension fittings or upright fittings.

The shaping of the picture frame renders it possible to choose the side to which the picture should turn in the frame. Furthermore, the shaping of the frame only requires one cutting per frame. In this manner a framing of a pic- ture is obtained whereby two different visual angles of the frame may be chosen or the frame may be used as a turnable frame with a picture on both sides. Such a frame is moreover easy to manufacture as only one cutting per frame side is required at the same time as waste of mate- rial is avoided.

According to a particularly preferred embodiment, the suspension fittings are formed by a ball, whereby a sus¬ pension cord is secured to said ball.

Then the ball is fixed by a load of the cord from the suspension point. Moreover it is possible to adjust the picture frame in height by carrying the balls either up¬ wards or downwards into the recesses at the same time as the picture frame is raised.

Brief Description of Drawing

The invention will be described below with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which

Fig. 1 illustrates a picture frame according to the in¬ vention,

Fig. 2 illustrates a suspension of the frame, and

Fig. 3 illustrates a stand for the frame.

Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention

The picture frame according to the invention comprises a profile 1 symmetrical about an axis and being provided with two recesses 2, 3. The recesses are used for insert- ing a picture, a corner joint, suspension fittings or a stand. The profile 1 is cut out in frame parts 4, 5, and β assembled in corners by means of corner joints 7.

The picture frame is suspended by means of a ball 8, which is introduced into one of the recesses 2 or 3. The ball may be moved in the longitudinal direction of the recess, but is locked perpendicular thereto. A suspension cord extends about the ball. The ball is clamped by a

CKf

load of the cord 9 from the suspension point of the pic¬ ture. From a permanent suspension it is therefore possible to adjust the picture frame in height by carrying the balls in the recesses upwards or downwards at the same time as the picture frame is raised in such a manner that the cord 9 is not loaded.

Upright fittings for the picture frame are formed by a stand 10 comprising a resilient joint 11, which is pressed upwards into the recesses 2 or 3, whereby the stand is fixed in the frame.

The frame profile is preferably substantially S-shaped.

The corner joints may for instance be formed by L-pieces, the legs of which are inserted into the recesses, cf. Fig; - 1.

Both the frame profile and the L-pieces may be made of metal or plastics.

According to the invention a picture frame is thus pro¬ vided which is easier to assemble and more flexible than the previous frames.

The picture frame according to the invention may be varied in many ways without deviating from the scope of the in¬ vention.
