Abstract:

The present invention provides a piercer plug material for producing a seamless steel tube, the piercer plug being a plug for a seamless steel tube produced by means of the Mannesmann process, and exhibiting excellent season cracking resistance and machinability. The piercer plug material contains, in mass%, 0.08 to 0.3% of C, 0.1 to 1.0% of Si, 0.2 to 1.5% of Mn, 0.2 to 2.0% of Ni, and a total of 1.5 to 8% of W and/or Mo, the remainder being Fe and impurities, wherein the amount of diffusible hydrogen contained as impurities is restricted to 2 ppm or less. The piercer plug material has a hardness between HRC 6 and 40, inclusive.
