A tool (10) for piercing a workpiece (52), the tool (10) comprising an exterior surface defining a cutting edge wherein the exterior surface is adapted to adopt a larger effective profile when approaching a workpiece (52) and to return to a smaller effective profile once the substrate is pierced.
