Abstract:
An energy confinement strip type piezoelectric oscillator utilizing a triple wave of thickness slip mode. The piezoelectric oscillator (1) comprises a strip type piezoelectric ceramic substrate (2) polarized in the longitudinal direction, and first and second excitation electrodes (3, 4) provided on the first and second major surfaces (2a, 2b) of the piezoelectric ceramic substrate (2). An exciting region (5) including a piezoelectric oscillating portion utilizing a harmonic of thickness slip mode is formed while including the overlapping portion of the first and second excitation electrodes (3, 4). Periphery of the piezoelectric oscillating portion is a nonexciting region and at least a portion of the nonexciting region contiguous to the piezoelectric oscillating portion is a region of relatively small degree of polarization or a non-polarized region, having a polarization axis direction identical to that of the exciting region (5).
