PILE FABRIC AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING SAME

A pile fabric in which specific areas only have been fusion-bonded and the pile fibers are thereby prevented from falling off, without impairing the texture; and a process for producing the pile fabric. The pile fabric (5) comprises a ground weave and pile fibers (2) twisted around the ground yarns (1) that constitute the ground weave and rising on the front surface of the ground weave, wherein the pile fibers (2) are fibers of at least one kind selected from a group consisting of acrylic fibers and modacrylic fibers, the pile fibers (2) have a lower softening point than the fibers constituting the ground weave, and among the pile fibers (2) twisted around the ground yarns (1) constituting the ground weave, at least some of the pile fibers (2) located outside the ground yarns (1) constituting the ground weave have been fusion-bonded and the pile fibers (2) rising on the front surface of the ground weave have not been fusion-bonded. The process for pile fabric production involves the step of conducting contact heating/pressing from the back side of the ground weave at a temperature which is equal to or higher than the softening point of the pile fibers (2) but is less than the softening point of the fibers constituting the ground weave.
