WIPO Patent Application WO/2005/100823
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A pinion shaft (7) formed of non-quenched/tempered steel as the raw material has shaft sections (71, 72) and a section (70) where pinion teeth are formed and which is continuous to the shaft sections (71, 72). The section (70) where pinion teeth are formed includes pinion teeth (7a) and tooth bottom sections (7b). In the section (70) where pinion teeth are formed and the shaft sections (71, 72) are provided a hardened layer (80) where induction hardening and tempering are applied. The steel contains 0.45 - 0.55 mass percent C, 0.10 - 0.50 mass percent Si, 0.15 - 0.25 mass percent Mo, and 0.0005 - 0.005 mass percent B. The surface hardness of the section (70) where pinion teeth are formed and of the shaft sections (71, 72) is 650 - 760 HV in Vickers hardness.
