Title:
PIPE POST ANCHORING DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2000/040827
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A process invented and the components necessary to accomplish the process invented and designed to anchor pipe posts in the ground. This consists of a pipe shaped cylindrical anchoring component (4), closed at the top end and having the walls of the opposing lower portion of the component (4) cut into prongs (5) that are then formed into concave shapes that do not exceed the parameter of the original cylindrical dimension. And there is two slots (6) made longitudinally in the wall of this component (4) so that the travel off it will be limited by a bolt traversing it and the post (1). And there is four protrusions (3) made on the inside bottom wall of the post (1) and the purpose of them is to stop the progress of the anchoring component (4) when it is made to move downward. And there is a base anvil device (7) inside the anchoring component (4) and it is made to move down a little and form a small aperture so that the prongs (5) will exit the slots in the driven post (1) and go into the surronding ground as the expanding anchoring device (4) is made to move downward by the blows struck from above.

Description:
PIPE POST ANCHORING DEVICE

This Invention relates to a device, and methods to anchor pipe post in the ground aner they are driven.

Not much research or innovation lias been undertaken in the art ofinstailing pipe post in the ground. Even

though it is a very large industry using pipe posl in every conceivable manner and geographical location.

Cemented pipe post are universel in commercial and industrial uses but arc very expensive and time

consumine to build, when all this is not reallv necessary because most commercial iences stretch fur many miles across country and in remote areas where they will rarely be disturbed, and when they are repairs can be verv expensive and ditlicutt.

To install a cemented pence post a hole is dug, a man has to manipulate the post to me correct posilio the hole, Directed by a man some distance away sighting or aligning the post. When it is correct there is a man standing by with a barrow of cement, the post is cemented, double checked, and on to the next one and the crew has to leave and return the another day when they are set, to complete the job.

i :U : :' ui iiis. :'lilv°., ui3a kiLSi hole was 3$ Lii : °.11I' ( (li g, (1US uSl (i Illy methoCS'Ill ( 1) : (j11VC11 iUl ( et ; CIICCV anchored by one man. and work can proceed without interruption, and my anchoring devise would cost only a couple of dollars.

I have found that attempting to spread prongs to anchor posis, in previous attempts, not to be feasible without the method I have invented, because in sou ground, the post will continue downward because there is no resistance to hold the post inert.

Whereas in liir ground me prongs might possibly get misshapen amd incapable ofecxiting the aperture.

The uxed opening 1 have designed and invented creates me conditions necessary to extrude me prongs irregerdless of wether the ground is boggy or extremely hard.

The mechanical post driver I have invented might not make for more production, but the fact is, commercial fences are six feet Itigh or more and would require a great deal more strenuous lifting and reaching, than resiclential fences.

In drawings which illustrate embodiment of me invention, Ggure i is an elevation partly in section of a pipe post ready to be clivez. Figure 2 a post lister and support tool. Figure 3 a post driver. Figure 4 a

mechanical post driver.

The post.. I is prepared by having two quarter inch holes 2 drilled opposite one another in me lower wall of the post'1, and at the lowest extremity on me inside wait of me post # I Four protmsions 3 are made, evently spaced around the post 1.

An anchoring device. : 4 is made from steel tube that Sts tightly but can move inside me post'1, and it is closed at the designated upper end, and me opposing lower wall arca is made into eight evenly spaced prongs.. 5 off predetermined length, and they are made into concave shape, and four alternate of these prongs: 5 are made to lie within the extended imaginary wall of the tube, and then the four remaining prongs 5, retaining there concave shape are made to lapover me four previous, until their tips are slightly outside the extended imaginary line of the tube, two quarter melt slots 6 are now made longitudinally

exactly opposite one another in the wall of the tube, and they are the same length as the extended length of

me prongs. 5.

And now a base anvil. 7 component must be made, and it must be fille into the anchoring device 4, when that device is being fomlcd, it is made cylindrical in shape and the full out side diameter is the saine as the out side diameter of the post # 1, and the bottom quarter inch of it, is flange #8 and the platform of the flange #8 is the same width as the thickness of the wall of me post and from the inside circular

comer of the platform, a wall rises one eighth of an inch, and provision is made in me wall for me profusions 3 in the wall of the post 1, Ironi me top circular edge of this wall rises a forty five degree cone

4 andhornmesummitofmecone4 is a metal rod and on the top of the rod, and on edge and centrally placed a ring 10 the same metal and gauge as the rod, and the inside diameter of the ring 10 is approximately one half inch, and the length of the ring and the rod combined is predetermined length.

\tien me anchoring device 4 and die base anvil device. 7 where combined, the ring 10 of the base

anvil device.!7 is7 is placed in the anchoring device @ 4 first, and the base of the base anvil device 7 is iett

protruding, this assembly is now forced into the bottom of the post 1 and the post @1 is resting on the

circular platform, and care must be taken theinside prongs 5 of the anchoring device 4 override the

protrusions 3 on the inside wall oC me post I and me outside prongs : 5 arc between them.

A quarter inch bolt 11 is now passed through tlle holes 2 of the post 1 and it must traverse me post. I me bottom of the slots 6 of the anchoring device 4, and the bottom half of the ring 10 of the base anvil @7 device, and the bolt 11 then fastened.

The whole assembly now is prepared to be driven and the spacer pipe. 1 ? is put into the post 1, Resting on the top of the anchoring device 4 and the rim 13 end of me spacer pipe i 12 is exactly level; wilSl the top of the post; 1, and it is driven to the desired depth.

The pipe lifter and support tool i 14 is now used, and the whole assembly of post. 1 and anchoring device 7auld the post driver 15, is lilted one quarter inch, causing a cavity'16 beneath me base anvil devise @7, and then the sprung articulated legs 17 of the lifter and support tool 14 ate kicked inwards to brace and support this whole assembly.

The post driver ; 15 is now raised;andthroughtheaperture18thepipespacerextension 19 is place on

the spacer pipe @12, and the post driver 15 brought into play.

The force used to manipulate the anchor device 4 is only a fraction of what is needed to drive the post 1, comparatively light blows will cause the base anvil device. 7 to move into me cavity.. 16 formed,

until the inside diameter of me ring 10 meets the bolt 11 transversing the post 1 and is stopped, causing a fixed opening 19 to form and the prongs. 5 of the anchoring device 4 will continue down and exit me opening, and be deflected on the base anvil 7 into the surrounding ground, fomiing a effective anchor, until stopped by the body of me anchoring device 4 meeting the protrusions. 3 on the inside wall of the

pipe post,. ! 1. and the top of the slots @6 of in the anchoring device @4 connecting me bolt, 11 traversing the post 1, and so effectively anchoring the post 1.
