Abstract:

Provided is a piston ring wherein the antiwear property, the gas seal property, and the oil removing property can be simultaneously satisfied; a sliding surface of the piston ring is prevented from being damaged or scuffed; the inner peripheral surface of a cylinder, which is to be in contact with the piston ring, is prevented from being damaged or worn; and the piston ring is prevented from being abnormally worn. In the piston ring having a sliding surface on the outer periphery thereof, the sliding surface is comprised of a first sliding surface which occupies a predetermined area from one end of the sliding surface and a second sliding surface which occupies an area from an end of the first sliding surface to the other end of the sliding surface, in a section perpendicular to the radial direction of the piston ring. The first sliding surface is composed of a hard coating, and the second sliding surface is not composed of a hard coating. The second sliding surface is inwardly deviated from a phantom line extending from the first sliding surface toward the other end of the sliding surface.
