Title:
PITCHING-UP METHOD USING THE WING OF AN AIRCRAFT WITH FLAPPING WINGS
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO1998050271
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
The present invention pertains to the field of aviation and aircraft engineering and essentially relates to a method for performing an "eight"-shaped figure with the wing of an aircraft having flapping wings when observing the said aircraft from the side. To this end, two hinges are mounted between the wing truss in the actuator and the wing itself, wherein one hinge allows the wing to flap along its plane while the other is used for spring-loading the connection of a "shaft-insert" system to the truss. The flapping action begins downwards by initially applying a force along the leading edge of the wing. The wing having thus a negative attack angle moves forward and catches up with the force application plane and changes its attack angle once in the front. The wing then starts to move away from the hull of the aircraft and, once behind the force application plane, starts a negative rotation before moving forward again, thus ending the downward flapping action. By shifting the force application plane for braking down the flapping action along the trailing edge of the wing, said wing starts flapping upwards, crosses this plane and, at the upper point of the flapping action, starts rotating downward again.
