Abstract:
This planar illumination device according to an embodiment comprises a light source and a light guide plate (40). The light source emits light. The light guide plate (40) includes a side surface (40c), an emission surface (40e) being one main surface, and a back surface (40f) being the other main surface. A prism (40h) is formed on the back surface (40f), and light incident on the side surface (40c) from the light source is emitted from the emission surface (40e). Additionally, the prism (40h) includes a first region (40h1) substantially parallel to the emission surface (40e) and a second region (40h2) inclined with respect to the emission surface (40e), and the light source emits light (100) obliquely to the side surface (40c).
