Abstract:
The planar illumination device of an embodiment is provided with a substrate (11) and a light guiding plate (13). On the substrate (11), a plurality of light sources (12) are two-dimensionally disposed. The light guiding plate (13) is disposed on the side of a surface on which the light sources (12) are disposed of the substrate (11). The light guiding plate (13) has a plurality of through-holes (13c) provided in the thickness direction and housing the plurality of light sources (12), respectively, and a dummy light source (13d). Regarding the dummy light source (13d), another dummy light source is not disposed on a line segment connecting the center of the dummy light source (13d) and the center of any light source among the plurality of light sources (12).
