Abstract:
A planer, wherein a saddle (51) with a spindle (50) mounted thereon is brought in contact directly or indirectly with the side surfaces of three columns (10, 20, and 30) erectedly installed generally in an equilateral triangle so that the spindle (50) is positioned at the geometrical gravity center of a triangle formed with these three columns (10, 20, and 30), an index table (2a) is provided with a plurality of chuck tables (4a and 4b), when one chuck table (4b) feeds a work (5b) to the underside of the saddle (51), the other chuck table (4a) is located at a load and unload position and, because the spindle (50) is arranged at the geometrical gravity center of the columns (10, 20, and 30), a reaction generated at the time of planing is distributed evenly on the columns (10, 20, and 30), whereby the deformation of the columns (10, 20, and 30) causing the spindle (50) to incline can be prevented and the work can be planed with high precision.
