Title:
PLANETARY ROTARY INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2005024200
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
An apparatus for a rotary internal combustion engine (10). The engine (10) has three rotating members (1006) that orbit about the center of a three-armed rotor (1002) as the rotor (1002) rotates within a housing (102) with three lobes (1112). The tips (1106) of the rotating members (1006) engage the lobes (1112) and a circular cutout (1306) in the rotor (1002) as the rotor (1002) rotates. A back plate (106) includes inlet and exhaust ports (502, 504) that are sequentially opened and closed by the rotating members (1006) and rotor (1002) as they move within the housing. A front plate (202) rotates with the rotor (1002) and separates the combustion chambers from a planetary gear assembly (206, 306, 308) that ensures the alignment of the rotating members (1006) as they orbit the rotor shaft (108). Fuel is injected after the compression cycle (1614) is initiated.
