Abstract:
A plasma torch (20a) for heating molten steel, comprising an outer tube (26) of an annular bottomed double tube (21), and a tubular bottomed anode electrode (28) fixed to the inside of the outer tube (26) through a gap from the inside of the double tube (21), wherein the anode electrode (28) is made of a material having a softening temperature higher than 150° C except for pure copper, and the ratio of electric conductivity D of the anode electrode (28) to electric conductivity N of the outer tube (26) satisfies a relation 0.2 $m(F) D / N $m(F) 1.0. Lifetime of the plasma torch is prolonged by preventing fusion loss or wear due to heat or splash occurring in the anode electrode and suppressing generation of side arc thus stabilizing the casting operation while enhancing the quality of a cast piece.
