[0001 ] This invention relates to a bag of plastic material provided with a sealing tying system, with an adhesive label with a tie, that is joined to the bag in an integral way in correspondence of the part that is curled; furthermore the invention also relates to the production process and the process of use of said bag.
Field of the invention
[0002] The invention finds particular although not exclusive application in the field of accessories for domestic use for containing and preserving bulk material such as, as a non-exhaustive example, food freezing bags or even rubbish- bags.
[0003] Among the accessories commonly used in houses, of essential utility are the bags for containing food for the purpose of their preservation in refrigerating devices and, particularly, in freezers. In most of the cases they are made of a plastic material for food, waterproof and also suitable for low temperatures. The most used material for this type of bags is PE, the acronym of polyethylene, at various densities; sometimes PA, the acronym of polyamide, is used or combined multi-layer solutions are used, also with other materials. Basically, such bags are made by extrusion and heat sealing of a plastic film, whose thickness and size are variable according to the particular destination of use.
[0004] With reference to the production of bags for the domestic preservation of food in the freezer, there has been, especially in recent years, a challenge aimed at looking for innovative solutions particularly regarding the closing system; in said bags, in fact, it is generally impossible, due to small sizes or to the consistency of the material, to knot the mouth edges as sometimes one does with rubbish bags of large sizes; furthermore, the known and widespread solution that provides the use of plastic or paper ties with a metal core, called twist-ties in English, has been found to be little practical.
[0005] Among the known solutions of bag containers, although of generic use and not specific for freezers, that incorporate a closing or fastening system, one should remember as an example: US1 703620 (Hamilton) that provides a plurality of clamps equipped with a buckle and placed at different heights of the bag; US1 994945 (Cook) that proposes a ring pinch device joined to the bag by means of a chain; EP1 01 3567 (Marchal) that provides an elastic band to fasten a rubbish bag to the bin. Several solutions providing the use of at least one portion of the same bag in the form of a tie, upon the guided tearing on punctured lines, are considered known and conventional as well; among them one should remember: US31 07842 (Guilfoyle), JP9208002 (Suzuki), WO9008071 (Heiremans et al.).
[0006] Furthermore, evolved solutions of plastic bags for domestic use are known, which comprise a strip of plastic material inserted and sealed to the side edges for the purpose of being used as a tie to be used contextually to the closure; moreover, closing devices for containers of various kinds are known, also in the form of a bag, of the type with a clamp or adhesive tongue that can be repositioned. Closest prior art
[0007] The object of the present invention is therefore directed to the search for an optimal solution of a plastic bag that integrates a closing means, of the strip or clamp type, such as to allow for a particularly easy and effective closure of the mouth. Priority searches have been made in patent literature, which have evidenced some relevant documents:
D1 : US4778283 (Osborn)
D2: EP0739271 (Rutledge)
D3: US4008851 (Hirsch)
D4: EP21 41 082 (Virago)
D5: US28491 71 (O'Brien)
D6: FR21 68876 (Brevex)
D7: EP031 51 76 (Rutledge)
[0008] D1 describes a plastic bag provided with a thin band joined to the ends of the upper edge of the mouth also with a central opening that allows for the insertion of said clamp to facilitate its closing, in the form of a tie and string.
[0009] D2 and D3 propose a bag provided with an adhesive clamp closing means, with an end joined in an integral way near the mouth, like adhesive tape. [001 0] D4 proposes a bag for domestic use, in particular for rubbish, with a tie device for closing the mouth being provided in correspondence of the opening edge with a string of the same material that is placed inside one of the two strips that define the mouth, with the ends sealed to the sides of the bag; it is provided that said string is wound around the curled mouth, and therefore passed under the rest portion of the string. Furthermore, D5 and D6 describe a plastic bag externally provided with a plastic string sealed to the ends along the side edges.
[001 1 ] D7 proposes a plastic bag provided with a closing element of elongated shape like a band, which is sealed at one end in correspondence of the curling along a side edge of the bag, leaving the opposite end free for the purpose of winding it like a knot around the curling; there is also provided an opening into which said band can be inserted before pulling it, like a cinch, to make the closure more stable. Said closing element is made of a material sealable to the bag, such as PE, also of a greater thickness to ensure resistance, or of the multi-layer type being co-extruded with a resistant material and also suitable to hinder the release sliding of the knot, such as EVA, the English acronym of ethylene vinyl acetate.
[001 2] To summarize, it is reasonable to consider as known:
- a bag of plastic material with a mouth closable by means of a string;
- a bag of plastic material with an incorporated closing string, being joined at the end by means of sealing along the side edges;
- a bag of plastic material provided with a closing means of the clamp or band type, which is adhesive on the back surface also in a repositionable way;
- a bag obtained in continuous production from a film of plastic material on a bobbin, heat-sealed and punctured in correspondence of the tears.
Drawbacks
[001 3] To summarize, we have observed that most of the solutions described have some drawbacks or some limits.
[001 4] In principle, the tying systems not integrated in the bag, of the tie type with a metal core also called twist-ties, are considered of little practicality and also of little comfort of use being of small size and difficult to handle. In particular, it is also known that often such ties are inserted into the packages of the bags in a smaller number than necessary and, sometimes, in bulk; moreover, it is observed that they can be easily lost in the drawers being bulk elements and separate from the single bag. Furthermore, it is well known that such ties are hardly recyclable.
[001 5] The closing systems of the adhesive clamp type, although joined in an integral way near the mouth as in D2 and D3, are of easy use but of little effectiveness in closing and particularly in the case of food freezing bags, it being impossible to realize a closure of the airtight type; for this purpose, in particular, it is preferable, after wringing the mouth to let the air out, to knot a clamp around it also pulling it like a slipknot of the throttle type. Furthermore, it can be seen that said adhesive means need on their back a protection element of the adhesive having high industrial costs.
[001 6] Moreover, we have observed that the tying system with a string of plastic material sealed to the bag, as in D3 - D6, require the tearing of the two side ends for the purpose of using the tie and knotting it around the curling; moreover, the handling of both ends of the string in a way released from the bag obliges to carry out difficult manoeuvres for the positioning at the correct height. Furthermore, the use for the band of a material having an equal or similar behaviour as the bag, therefore little resistant, does not allow to knot with force; on the other hand, the use of more resistant sealed materials, of a greater thickness or multi-layer as in D7, may cause undesired tears and breaks to the bag itself, besides being uncomfortable in the production phase.
[001 7] In particular, among the conventional throttle knotted tying systems by means of laces, bands or strips of the separate type, the problem is known that they generally slip on the surface of the bag near the mouth, it being difficult to provide an effective knotted tying of the throttle type. Furthermore, it has been found that said throttle tying tends to loosen over time, reducing the effectiveness of the closure and therefore the sealing; this problem is widely known in food freezing bags. Among the solutions proposed, the use of overlapped materials for the tie, as in D7, is expensive and little effective.
[001 8] A further drawback relative to the preservation of food consists of the fact that it is generally unadvisable for hygienic reasons to re-use the bag and its closing system.
[001 9] From these introductory remarks, it can be guessed how it is certainly preeminent to find some alternative and more effective solutions.
Summary of the invention
[0020] This and other aims are achieved by the present invention according to the characteristics as in the enclosed claims, solving the arising problems by means of a plastic bag (200) provided with a closing device (1 0) with a label with a tie that is joined in an integral way to an external face (21 OA) of the bag in correspondence of the curled part (202) for the purpose of allowing an easy and effective tying. Said device (1 0) is divided into three sections: a first section (1 0A) as a divisible end; a second section (1 0B) in the form of a liftable and knottable tie; a third section (1 0C) acting as an integral base. This device ( 1 0) is of a flexible material more resistant to traction with respect to the bag and has on the back, in correspondence of the second section (1 0B), a prevention layer (1 21 ) that locally covers the adhesive surface (1 20) in such a way as to allow the lifting, the tearing (1 1 3) and the throttle knotting, also being automatically removable by friction in the execution of the permanent closure by means of said knotting. The invention, moreover, describes the production process of said bag (200).
Aims
[0021 ] In this way, through the appreciable creative contribution, the effect of which constitutes an immediate technical progress, various advantages are achieved.
[0022] A first aim consisted in realizing a bag of plastic material, particularly a food freezing bag, which is externally provided, at the curling near the opening edge, with a closing device with a label with a tie of the tear-off type at one of the two ends in such a way as to allow the user to lift the intermediate portion and make a knot.
[0023] A second aim consisted in realizing a tying device that allows for an easy and effective knotted tying of the throttle type, particularly said device being already placed at the correct height of the curling.
[0024] A third aim consisted in realizing a tying device that remains integral with the bag at one of the two ends, without slipping.
[0025] A fourth aim consisted in realizing a tying device that allows, if tightened with force, to knot in a permanent way the curling, being characterized by an innovative localised prevention system of the adhesive in such a way as to allow for the sliding of the tie during closing and also prevent its release after the final tightening said prevention being removed by friction, therefore allowing the prevented glue to re-emerge to stop the tying. [0026] A further aim consisted in realizing a tying device of particularly intuitive use for the user and practicable with extreme rapidity, ensuring a good sealing function.
[0027] An additional aim also consisted in enabling the realization of a bag with an integrated closing device, at low costs.
[0028] These and other advantages will appear from the following detailed description of preferred embodiments, with the aid of the enclosed drawings.

Practical embodiment of the object of the invention
[0029] With reference also to the Figures (Figures 1 -5), this invention refers to a bag (200) of plastic material for domestic use such as, as a non-exhaustive example, of the food freezing bag type, also called freezer bag in English, or of the rubbish bag type or still any flexible bag similarly shaped in different sizes, which is externally provided, at the curled part (202) near the opening edge (201 ), with a band-like closing device (1 0) in the form of an adhesive label that integrates a central portion acting as a tie.
[0030] Said closing device (1 0) is of elongated shape and is divided into at least three different sections (1 0A, 1 0B, 1 0C) (Figures 2, 3): a first section (1 0A), in the form of a divisible end that remains permanently joined to the bag (200) by means of the adhesive back surface (1 20); a second central section (1 0B), preferably of greater length and smaller width with respect to the other sections (1 0A, 1 0C), that is joined at the end to said sections (1 OA, 1 0C) but is not joined to the bag at the back; a third section (1 0C), in the form of an integral base, which is joined to the bag (200) in correspondence of the adhesive back surface (1 20), similarly to said first section (1 0A). In more detail, said closing device ( 1 0) is joined in an integral way to one of the two external faces (21 OA, 21 OB) of the bag (200), preferably with an arrangement parallel to the mouth (201 ) and central with respect to the side edges of the front face (21 OA) (Fig. 4); such an arrangement is not limitative being it possible to realize alternative arrangements of said device ( 1 0), providing at least that said third section (1 0C) is joined in correspondence of the knotting, therefore near the curled part (202).
[0031 ] In particular, said second section (1 0B) is suitable to act as a tie, said closing device (1 0) being made of a flexible plastic material more resistant to traction than the bag (200) and suitable to be knotted as is for example polypropylene, and having on its back a prevention layer (1 21 ) that locally covers the adhesive surface (1 20) in such a way as to prevent its adhesion and therefore being liftable with fingers and tearable in correspondence of the puncture (1 1 3) that allows for its release from said first section ( 1 OA); in this way a free end (1 1 5) is obtained that allows for its use as a tie. The opposite end of said second section (1 0B) with respect to said free end (1 1 5), on the other hand, has no puncture and cannot be separated from the third section ( 1 0C), remaining integral with the bag (200) and constrained to the correct knotting position (Figures 1 A-D, 4).
[0032] Furthermore, it is provided that said prevention layer ( 1 21 ) is thin and removable in such a way as to allow for the sliding, during the throttle knotting, but also such as to be removed automatically and progressively by friction for the purpose of realizing a more resistant closure, of the permanent type; this seizing effect increases with the increase in traction, therefore in the closing force and in friction, causing the removal of the prevention layer (1 21 ) uncovering the underlying adhesive surface ( 1 20) and hindering the release of the knot.
[0033] Said device ( 1 0) has sizes proportional to the bag (200) and to its curled part, being variable depending on the specific use and on the material used for the film; as a non-exhaustive example, the overall length of the device (1 0), longitudinally, is comprised between 50 and 240 mm, while the width, transversely, is comprised between 4 and 1 2 mm. In the preferred embodiment, said device (1 0) has an overall length, longitudinally, of 1 60 mm, being of 1 1 mm for the first section (1 0A), 1 25 mm for the second section (1 0B) acting as a tie and 24 mm for the third section ( 1 0C), and also has a total width, transversely, of 8 mm for the first and the third section (1 0A, 1 0C) and 6 mm for the second section (1 0B); the above-mentioned sizes should be considered with a margin of 20% more or less, being anyway not binding for alternative embodiments. In particular, in the preferred embodiment the invention provides a symmetrical recess (1 1 4) of the profile, in correspondence of the change of function between the sections, for the purpose of facilitating the different use of the central section (1 0B), in the form of a tie of elongated shape, with respect to the other sections (1 0A, 1 0C) that remain joined to the bag (200) as integral sticking bases.
[0034] For the purpose of correctly achieving the tying of the bag (200) by means of said device (1 0), the invention provides the following closing method (Figures 1 A-D): first of all, said second section ( 1 0B) is seized and lifted with one's fingers near the puncture (21 3) for the purpose of tearing it, separating it from the end first section (1 0A) and freeing an end (1 1 5) of said second section (1 0B) acting as a tie (Fig. 1 A); afterwards, the curling is made in correspondence of the mouth (201 ), preferably below said tying device (1 0) (Fig. I B), for example clasping it with one's hand and letting the air out like squeezing it; then, the free end of the tie, which corresponds to the release puncture (1 1 3) on the second section (1 0B), is wound like a collar around the curled part (202) forming at least one throttle knot (203), where said free end is passed below the rest turn (Fig. 1 C) to be withdrawn with force for the purpose of obtaining a permanent and sealing tying, of the airtight type, of the mouth (201 ) (Fig. I D). The knotting operation can be repeated several times for greater security.
[0035] Said closing method (Fig. 1 A-D) also allows for a good level of adjustment of the closure, it being possible to permanently knot the bag (200) in a throttle way if a high tensile force is exerted, as described above, making it airtight and non-reusable; furthermore, it . is possible to realize a non-permanent closure exerting a weak tensile force, with loose tying and non-airtight sealing, said prevention layer (1 21 ) therefore being removed in an incomplete way.
[0036] Said closing device (1 0) can be realized industrially with the technology of production of adhesive labels, in particular processing a flexible plastic sheet, preferably of PP, the acronym of polypropylene, having a thickness comprised between 30 and 1 00 microns or of another plastic material equally flexible and resistant, on whose back surface a uniform layer of adhesive is laid, preferably of the permanent glue type having a thickness comprised between 1 0 and 90 microns, on which a protective sheet of the silicone treated paper type removable for labels is further coupled. In particular, such a semi-finished product is further subjected to a printing process on both sides: on the front surface ( 1 1 0) a decorative printing is made, for example of the flexographic type, that if necessary comprises visible graphic elements ( 1 1 1 ) such as arrows, dotted lines or other indications of use, or logos, drawings, writings or other aesthetic patterns (Fig. 2); on the adhesive back surface ( 1 0), on the other hand, upon temporary removal of said silicone treated paper, in correspondence of said second portion (1 0B) a thin prevention layer ( 1 21 ) is moulded, as a covering patina suitable to locally hinder the adhesive capability (Fig. 3). The so made labels are punched to size, punctured and mounted on the supporting paper rolled up in bobbins, parallel and with an equal distance between centres, for the following applications; said supporting paper, being of the type conventionally called silicone treated paper for labels or an alternative plastic film with an equivalent function.
[0037] The bag (200) provided with said tying device ( 1 0) is of a double-layer plastic film (21 0) processed in a continuous cycle from a bobbin, being of a material conventionally used for the industrial production of bags such as, as a non-exhaustive example, PE, PPE, PET; preferably, the invention provides the use of film of PE in the various densities, such as the HD type, the LD type or the MD type, of a thickness comprised between 1 0 and 80 microns.
[0038] The finished product (20) (Fig. 4) is realizable by means of the production process described in the following (Fig. 5), obtaining a plurality of bags (200) wound in rolls (350) downstream of the production line (30); said bags are joined along the mouth (201 ), which corresponds to the puncture line (21 4) near the bottom sealing (21 3) that forms the contiguous and previous bag with respect to the direction of advancement (21 5). Each single bag
(200) has a tying device (1 0) placed at the curling near the mouth
(201 ) , preferably but not exclusively with an arrangement parallel to said mouth (201 ) and central with respect to the side edges of the bag. The finished product (20) that is represented in (Fig. 4) has on its side a wire side welding (21 2) that if necessary can be not provided, as for example occurs in the particular case of a single- track tubular film.
[0039] The production process of said bags (200) provides the processing of a plastic film (310), that is sealed and pre-cut, on which said closing device ( 1 0) in the form of a label is externally applied (Fig. 5). In the preferred but not exclusive embodiment, this production process provides a step automatic production line (30) of the type with workstations placed in sequence, as described and optimized in the following, being advantageously of the multi-track type:
- a first station (30A), upstream of the cycle, where the bobbin (31 0) of said plastic film (31 1 ) is unwound, feeding in a continuous way the production line (30); said plastic film (31 0) is double-layer being previously obtained, in the solution called single-bending, by folding the film longitudinally in two mirror-like strips facing each other, or, in the solution called tubular, by extrusion in a laterally closed section in the form a tube and with a width equal to the total tracks used; said solutions of film, single-bending or tubular, being equally suitable for the invention;
- a second station (30B), wherein on said film (31 1 ) the bottom sealing (21 3) of the bags is performed, with a constant distance between centres and equal to the length of the single bag (200), by means of at least one pair of heat sealing bars (320) symmetrically opposite above and below the film and placed orthogonally to the direction of advancement (31 2); moreover, parallel to such sealing bars, there is at least one pre-cut bar (321 ) that performs the puncture (21 4) near said seal (21 3), after it;
- a third station (30C), wherein said tying device (1 0) is applied running outside said film (31 1 ) with a constant pitch, in the form of a label, in correspondence of the part of bag that will be curled (202); for this application at least one automatic labelling machine (330) is provided that unwinds the bobbin (331 ) with said tying devices (1 0) previously originated on the supporting paper (332), applies them frontally regularly spaced and finally rewinds said supporting paper into a bobbin (333) for paper collection;
- a fourth station (30D), wherein on said film (31 1 ) the continuous wire side welding (21 2) is performed, by means of at least one longitudinal sealing blade (340), realizing the side edge of the bags relative to each track; this station, remaining inactive only in the particular case of single-track processing with the tubular film;
- a fifth station (30E), downstream of the cycle, wherein the finished product (20) is wound in rolls (350).
[0040] Said production process allows for alternative processing sequences, depending on particular production needs; in more detail, it can be seen that the reciprocal position of the second (30B), of the third (30C) and of the fourth station (30D) is not binding, being reciprocally alternatable without changing the finished product.
[0041 ] Said production process on the production line (30) with workstations (30A - 30E) can advantageously integrate a photocell suitable to identify a graphic sign, of the type conventionally called printing mark, which allows the timing of any prints made in a previous processing.
[0042] As a consequence, the bag (200) that is provided with said tying device (1 0) is industrially producible in an automated way, with high quality and reduced industrial costs, also being suitable for high production volumes.
