Abstract:
Provided is a play device 2 for receiving fragmentary data of content via a network 4 and playing the content on the basis of the fragmentary data. The play device 2 connects to a plurality of servers 3 for distributing the content one at a time and receives from each of the servers 3 a prescribed number of acquisitions of the fragmentary data being contiguous in the content. A player 16 measures network characteristics at the time the fragmentary data is distributed from the servers 3 to the play device 2. The player 16: compares the respective network characteristics of the plurality of servers 3; selects the servers 3 with the most desirable network characteristics as high-priority servers 3; determines the servers 3 other than the high-priority servers 3 to be low-priority servers 3; and increases the number of second acquisitions from the high-priority servers 3 over the number of third acquisitions from the low-priority servers 3.
