Abstract:
A pneumatic cylinder, comprising a shaft member (14) having a piston (11) and a piston rod (3) axially connected to each other, a cylinder body (2) allowing the piston rod to be projected to the outside to linear-reciprocatingly support the shaft member (14), and porous air bearings (9) and (12) assembled in the cylinder body (2) to slidably support the piston (11) and the piston rod (3), wherein materials with generally equal coefficients of thermal expansion are used for the shaft member (14), cylinder body (2), and air bearings (9) and (12), whereby the performance of an air layer formed between the shaft member (14) and the air bearings (9) and (12), i.e., a sliding performance and a seal performance can be stably maintained irrespective of a temperature variation by maintaining constant the clearance between the shaft member (14) and the air bearings (9) and (12) irrespective of the temperature variation.
