Provided is a pneumatic tire for which weight reduction can be achieved while maintaining excellent durability and steering stability. A pneumatic tire having a carcass layer (4) installed between a pair of bead portions (3), wherein the carcass layer (4) includes, as a carcass cord, a plurality of composite cords (20) which comprise a polyethylene terephthalate fiber yarn with a fineness of 420-1200 dtex and an aromatic polyamide fiber yarn with a fineness of 520-1200 dtex, and which have a total fineness of 940-2400 dtex and a twist coefficient K in the range of 1600-2400. The composite cords (20) have an intermediate elongation in the range of 2.0-4.5% under a load of 2.0 cN. The dimensional stability index composed of the sum of the dry heat shrinkage at 150°C and the intermediate elongation under a load of 2.0 cN falls within the range of 2.5-6.0%, and the ratio of the initial elastic modulus M1 in a load range of 0N-44N at 100°C with respect to the initial elastic modulus M0 in a load range of 0N-44N at 25°C falls within the range of 76-94%.
