Abstract:
Disclosed is a polarimeter that employs a light source (31) other than LEDs or other sodium vapor lamps, which measures optical rotation of a specimen in solution and converts the optical rotation thus measured to an optical rotation with a specified wavelength on the basis of wavelength dependency of the optical rotation. The polarimeter also calculates the specific rotation of the solute of the specimen in solution from the optical rotation at the specified wavelength and the concentration of the solute. Scattering in optical rotation values arising from polarimeter differences is corrected, allowing straightforward comparisons of the measured specific rotation and specific rotations measured by other polarimeters. It is possible in particular to make straightforward comparisons of specific rotations measured previously by polarimeters that employ sodium vapor lamps as light sources and the specific rotation measured by the disclosed polarimeter by treating the sodium D line as the specified wavelength.
