Abstract:
The present invention provides a polarization combiner and separator that has excellent polarization combining and separating characteristics, a polarization combining and separating structure, a light mixer, an optical modulator module, and a method for manufacturing a polarization combiner and separator. A polarization combiner and separator (100) has a polarization combining and separating film (1) disposed on a substrate (101) and allowing TE light (11) to pass through and making TM light (12) diverge. An optical waveguide (WG1) is formed on the substrate (101), an end surface thereof faces a first surface of the polarization combining and separating film (1), and the waveguide direction thereof is the propagation direction for the TE light (11). An optical waveguide (WG2) is formed on the substrate (101), an end surface thereof faces a second surface of the polarization combining and separating film (1), and the waveguide direction thereof is the propagation direction for the TM light (12).
