Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing a polarizing element having a high degree of polarization and excellent adhesion between a polarizing layer and a photo-alignment film, and also providing an image display device. The polarizing element of the present invention has a support, a photo-alignment film, and a polarizing layer in this order, wherein the photo-alignment film is formed using a composition for forming a photo-alignment film that includes a copolymer having a repeating unit A represented by the following formula (A) and a repeating unit B represented by the following formula (B), and the polarizing layer is formed using a composition for forming a polarizing layer which includes a liquid crystal compound and a dichroic substance and in which at least one of the liquid crystal compound and the dichroic material has a polymerizable group.
