Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a polarizing element which has good polarization characteristics, while being excellent in terms of heat dissipation performance and production cost. In order to achieve the above-described purpose, a polarizing element 1 according to the present invention is characterized by comprising: a substrate 10 which is formed of a transparent inorganic material; a grid structure 20 which has a base part 21 that is formed of a transparent material and is provided along the surface of the substrate 10, and a projection part 22 that protrudes from the base part 21 in a grid-like pattern; and an optical function film 30 which is formed on the projection part 22, while being composed of an absorption film that absorbs light, a reflection film that reflects light, or a multilayer film that comprises at least the absorption film and the reflection film.
