Abstract:
A polarizing film in which a transparent protective film is affixed to both surfaces of a polarizing membrane, wherein: the polarizing membrane is formed by adsorbing and aligning iodine on a polyvinyl alcohol film, the iodine concentration thereof being 2-10 wt% (inclusive); at least one of the transparent protective films has a water vapor permeability of 200 g/(m2∙24 h) or less; and the polarizing film satisfies the condition that the change (∆Ts) in single transmittance represented by general formula (1) (∆Ts(%) = Ts500 – Ts0) is 0-5% (inclusive). The polarizing film has an excellent initial degree of polarization and an exceptional effect in terms of suppressing any decrease in single transmittance due to coloration of the polarizing membrane in a high-temperature environment, as well as an exceptional effect in terms of suppressing any decrease in degree of polarization in a high-temperature and high-humidity environment (humidification durability).
