Abstract:
A polarizing film including polyvinyl alcohol (A), and at least one species of boron-containing compound (B) selected from the group consisting of monoboronic acids represented by formula (I) and compounds that can be transformed to such a monoboronic acid in the presence of water, wherein the content of elemental boron originating from the boron-containing compound (B) in the polarizing film is 0.1-3.0 parts by mass with respect to 100 parts by mass of the polyvinyl alcohol (A). The polarizing film has low contractile force at high temperature, as well as excellent optical performance. [In formula (I), R1 is a C1-20 monovalent aliphatic group, and R1 and the boronic acid groups are linked by a boron-carbon bond.]
