Abstract:
A polarizing film having excellent optical characteristics is provided. This polarizing film is composed of an iodine-containing polyvinyl alcohol resin film, the thickness of which is 8 μm or less and the orthogonal absorbance per μm of thickness at a wavelength 210 nm is 1.00 or less. Such a polarizing film is obtained by a manufacturing method that comprises: forming, into a laminate, a polyvinyl alcohol resin layer containing an iodide or sodium chloride and a polyvinyl alcohol resin on one side of, for example, an elongated thermoplastic resin substrate; and subjecting the laminate, in the stated order, to an in-air supplementary stretching process, a dying process, an underwater stretching process, and a shrink-drying process for causing 2% or more shrinkage in the width direction by heating while conveying in the longitudinal direction.
