Abstract:
Provided are a polarizing plate composition containing a compound represented by the following general formula (I); a polarizing plate protective film; a polarizer; a polarizing plate; and a liquid crystal display device. In general formula (I), R represents a specific substituent group, and EWG1 and EWG2 represent electron-withdrawing groups. EWG1 and EWG2 may bond to one another to form a ring. However, in no event do EWG1 and EWG2 bond together into the following group, which bonds to the carbon atom onto which R is substituted, and forms a ring. Rx and Ry represent a hydrogen atom or substituent group. * indicates the position of bonding to the atom onto which R is substituted.
