Abstract:
Provided is a polarizing plate equipped with a phase retardation layer, the polarizing plate being thin and having superior operability and optical properties. A polarizing plate equipped with a phase retardation layer according to the present invention has: a polarizing plate containing a polarizing film and, at least on one side of the polarizing film, a protective layer; and a phase retardation layer. The polarizing film is formed of a polyvinyl-alcohol-based resin film containing a dichroic substance, the thickness thereof is equal to or less than 8 μm, the single transmittance thereof is equal to or greater than 43.5%, and the degree of polarization is equal to or greater than 99.940%. The Re(550) of the phase retardation layer is 100-190 nm, and the Re(450)/Re(550) thereof is equal to or greater than 0.8 and less than 1. The angle formed by the slow axis of the phase retardation layer and the absorption axis of the polarizing film is 40-50º.
