Abstract:
Provided is a pole-number-changing rotary electric machine which has excellent torque-current characteristics both when a large number of poles are driven and when a small number of poles are driven, without using a winding changeover mechanism. The pole-number-changing rotary electric machine comprises: a rotary electric machine which includes a stator that has stator slots disposed in a mechanical angle direction and a rotor that is caused to rotate by magnetomotive force generated by an electric current flowing through stator coils housed in the stator slots; an inverter which supplies an m-phase current to the stator coils; and a control unit which controls the inverter, wherein the magnetomotive force is provided to the stator slots at even intervals, the number of poles is changed between when a large number of poles are driven and when a small number of poles are driven, and the control unit changes the number of poles so that the ratio between the number of poles for when a large number of poles are driven and the number of poles for when a small number of poles are driven becomes (2n+1):1, and controls the phase of electric current so that the degree of freedom of an electric current, which is the number of different phases of an electric current per pole, is m/(2n+1) when a large number of poles are driven and is m when a small number of poles are driven, where m is a natural number that is a multiple of 3 and that is greater than or equal to 6, n is a natural number, and m/(2n+1) is greater than or equal to 2.
