Description:
POLISHING APPLICATION SYSTEM FOR MELAMINE-COATED WOOD- BASED BOARD SURFACES

DESCRIPTION

TECHNICAL FIELD

Present invention relates to a novel surface treatment developed for wood- based panel furniture materials such as melamine-coated particleboard, MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard), plywood, parquet, fiberboard and such.

The invention particularly relates to polishing treatment applied on board surfaces in order to provide a glossy look with a mirror effect on surfaces of melamine-coated wood-based furniture materials.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Various wood-based flat board shaped products are used in the furniture industry in the state of art. These products include wood-based furniture materials that are frequently used in daily life such as particleboard, MDF, plywood, laminate parquet, fiberboard etc. MDF, i.e. Medium density fiberboard, is made by combining fiber obtained from tree species such as beech, oak, pine and such with a synthetic binder, leaving it to dry for a certain period and then pressing the resulting board block. Particleboard is made by binding and shaping dried particles obtained from wood or other lignocellulosic vegetable raw materials - that are lignified - together with synthetic resin binders under temperature and pressure. Laminate parquet is a product made by pressing the resin-impregnated paper on a board obtained from wood fibers compressed under high pressure.

In the state of art, wood-based panel boards are topped by melamine resin- impregnated decorative paper in order to provide color and pattern on their outer surface. As a result of melamine coating process under pressure and temperature, a gloss value between 90-1 15 is obtained on the surface of the wood-based board. Mentioned gloss value is not sufficient to provide a mirror effect of the board surface. Methods such as PVC, acrylic, pet, lacquer painting etc. are used to provide a mirror effect on the surface of the panel board in the state of art. These methods provide a mirror effect on surfaces to a certain extent, however they significantly increase production costs. Moreover these methods are not easy to apply. An application on wood-based panel surfaces other than melamine coating is disclosed in application no TR201207893. Invention relates to a method and mechanism for the finishing process of wood-based board. This method includes cleaning the upper and lower sides of the wood-based board, application of an upper resin layer containing corundum particles on the upper side of this board and a lower resin layer containing corundum particles on the lower part of this board. Another upper resin layer containing cellulose is applied on the upper side of the mentioned board and another lower resin layer on the lower side thereof. A third upper resin layer containing glass particles is applied on the upper side of the board. Upper and lower resin layers contain 60% synthetic resin solution. An independent claim for a mechanism for the finishing process of wood-based boards is also included.

Upper and lower surfaces of the wood-based board are coated with resin in the invention, whose summary part is mentioned above. The existing system does not allow polishing and obtaining a glossy board surface with a mirror effect.

Another application with application number TR200904271 is the invention called Ornamentation of furniture surfaces using serigraphy method and polishin". The invention relates to a method for ornamenting surfaces of furniture - which are made of double-faced melamine-coated chipboard, double-faced melamine-coated mdf, double-faced melamine-coated hdf (high density fiberboard) and raw chipboard material with coating on top - by serigraphy method. The invention described briefly above enables creating various patterns and designs on the surface of the wood-based board with the application performed on the wood-based board by serigraphy method. This method is not suitable for polishing application and it is not possible to obtain such a gloss that will create a mirror effect with this application.

OBJECT OF THE INVENTION

Present invention relates to a polishing application system that meets the abovementioned needs, eliminates all disadvantages and provides some additional advantages.

An object of the invention is to obtain surfaces with a gloss value that creates a mirror effect (image reflection) by applying polishing method on outer surfaces of melamine coated wood-based panel furniture boards.

Another object of the invention is to attain up to 60% cost saving on m 2 basis compared to existing systems by using the polishing application system on outer surfaces of wood-based panel furniture boards. It is aimed to obtain glossy flooring by adapting the invention to laminate parquet production process.

In order to provide all advantages that are mentioned above and the ones that will be understood by the detailed description below, present invention is a polishing application system on board surfaces for melamine-coated wood- based panel furniture materials, wherein it contains • a polishing liquid tank containing polishing liquid, a sprayer nozzle provided on the body of the mentioned polishing liquid tank,

• a cylinder that distributes the polishing liquid sprayed from the mentioned sprayer nozzle homogenously on the board surface and that enables coating the board surface with polishing liquid,

• a rotating handle used for rotating the mentioned cylinders during the treatment. The structural and characteristic features and all advantages of the invention will be more clearly understood by the figures given below and detailed written description addressed to the figures. Therefore, evaluation should be done by taking into account these figures and the detailed description. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

In this detailed description, preferred embodiments of polishing application system (1 ) of the invention are described only for the better understanding of the subject and should not be construed as a limitation.

Present invention is a surface treatment system (1 ) developed for wood- based panel furniture materials such as melamine-coated particleboard, MDF, plywood, parquet and fiberboard. Figure 1 shows the side profile view of a preferred embodiment of the wood-based board surface polishing application system (1 ) of the invention. Accordingly, wooden board polish coating system (1 ) consists of a polishing liquid tank (2) containing polishing liquid, a sprayer nozzle (3) provided on the body of the mentioned polishing liquid tank (2), cylinders (5) that distribute the sprayed polishing liquid homogenously on the board surface (7) and that enable coating the surface (7) with polishing liquid, a rotating handle (4) used for rotating the mentioned cylinders (5) during the treatment.

Figure 2 shows the top profile view of the melamine-coated wood-based board surface polishing application system (1 ) of the invention. As seen in Figure 2, polishing liquid tank (2) is placed at the center of the system (1 ). There are preferably eight cylinders around the polishing liquid tank (2). Cylinders (5) are connected to the polishing liquid tank (2). Therefore, cylinders (5) move together with the polishing liquid tank (2) during treatment. Polishing liquid tank (2) is rotated around its own axis by means of the rotating handle (4) placed on the upper part of the polishing liquid tank (2).

Melamine-coated wood-based board surface polishing application system (1) of the invention has the following operating principles:

As seen from the model application in Figure 1 , at first polish coating system (1 ) is positioned on the surface (7) of the wood-based board (6). Then polishing liquid tank (2) is rotated rapidly by means of the rotating handle (4) Meanwhile, polishing liquid is sprayed on the surface (7) of melamine-coated wood-based board (6) through the sprayer nozzle (3) of the polishing liquid tank (2). Cylinders (5) around the rotating polishing liquid tank (2) also rotate. Cylinders (5) orbit around the polishing liquid tank (2). Thus, the polishing liquid tank (2) moves along the direction of movement (A) from one end to the other of the wood-based board (6) as seen in Figure 1 . When the treatment is finished, the whole treated surface (7) of the wood-based board (6) becomes a board surface on which polishing method is applied.

As described above, when polish liquid coating of the wood-based board (6) surface (7) is finished, the board surface (7) gains a glossy look with a mirror effect (image reflection). Polishing application does not lead to a change in the physical properties of the board surface (7). As a result of the treatment, cost saving up to 60% on m 2 basis is attained compared to existing systems, which are applied in order to provide gloss. It is possible to obtain glossy flooring by adapting the invention to laminate parquet production process.

It is possible to apply the polishing application system (1 ) of the invention to any kind of wood-based material (melamine-coated particle board, MDF, plywood, laminate parquet etc.) shaped as a flat board. The treatment can be performed by using a single cylinder (5) or a plurality of cylinders (5) as seen in Figure 2. Rotation movement of the system (1 ) can be provided manually or by motor power. Axis of rotation (B) of the system (1 ) during treatment can be clockwise, counterclockwise or in both directions in certain intervals. Polishing liquid applied on the surface can be integrated to the system or separated from the system in the polishing application system (1 ) of the invention. As seen in Figure 1 , polishing liquid can be stored in a polishing liquid tank (2) at the center of the system (1 ) or in the polishing liquid tank (8) separated from the system (1 ). Polishing liquid inside the separated polishing liquid tank (8) can be sprayed on the board surface (7) during application by means of a sprayer tip (9).
