Abstract:
A polyarylene block copolymer characterized by comprising a first block which has a first main chain having a polyarylene structure and also has an ion exchange group and a second block which has a second main chain and has substantially no ion exchange group, wherein the first block contains a structural unit represented by formula (1) and a structural unit represented by formula (2), the second block contains a structural unit represented by formula (3), and the first block has an ion exchange capacity of 3.5 to 6.0 meq/g. (In the formulae, Ar1 and Ar2 independently represent an arylene group and Ar3 represents a bivalent aromatic group, wherein Ar1 has at least one ion exchange group; and X1 represents O or S). The block copolymer enables the production of a proton-conducting film having high proton conductivity and excellent dimensional stability upon being swollen by absorbing water.
