Abstract:
Disclosed are a solid polymer electrolyte and proton-conducting membrane which exhibit high proton-conductivity as well as high dimensional stability and high mechanical strength. The disclosed electrolyte is a polyarylene block copolymer comprising polymer segments (A) that have sulfonic acid groups and polymer segments (B) that have essentially no sulfonic acid groups. The polymer segments (B), which have essentially no sulfonic acid groups, have structural units represented by formula (1). (In formula (1), R1 is a halogen atom or a C1-20 hydrocarbon group. L is a structural unit represented by formula (1-1) or (1-2), and at least one L is a structural unit represented by formula (1-1). The variable a represents an integer of 0-3, and p represents an integer 2-200. In formula (1-1), A is -O- or -S-. R2 is a C1-20 hydrocarbon group. X1 represents a halogen atom, b represents an integer of 1-4 and l represents an integer of 0-3. In formula (1-2), A is -O- or -S-. D is a direct bond or a structure such as -O- or -S-. R3 and R4 are C1-20 hydrocarbon groups and X2 and X3 are halogen atoms. The variables c and d represent integers of 0-4, m and n represent integers of 0-4 and q represents an integer of 0-4.)
