Abstract:

Disclosed is a polybutene preparation method which maximizes utilization of isobutene in a C4 mixture, thereby enabling production of a higher quantity of polybutene than in production of polybutene using a previous C4 mixture. The polybuten prepation method comprises the steps in which: a C4 mixture is supplied to an isomerization reactor, so that 1-buten is isomerized to 2-butene in an isomerization zone through a hydrogen isomerization reaction using an isomerization catalyst, and isobutene and 2-butene are separated by fractional distillation in a fractional distillation zone; the C4 mixture comprising the 2-butene separated from the isomerization reactor is supplied to a skeletal isomerization reactor, so that a portion of normal butene is skeletally isomerized to isobutene through a skeletal isomerization reaction using a skeletal isomerization catalyst, and the skeletally isomerized mixture obtained therefrom is supplied to the isomerization reactor and is thus recycled; and a polymerization catalyst and the reaction material comprising a high concentration of isobutene separated from the isomerization reactor are supplied to a polybutene polymerization reactor, so that polybutene is produced through a polymerization reaction.
