Abstract:
A microgenes comprising a polyfunctional base sequence having two or more functions in different reading frames which is seemingly necessary in creating industrially useful artificial proteins; an artificial gene obtained by polymerizing the same; and an artificial protein which is the translation product of the artificial gene. From among all combinations of base sequences encoding amino acids having a definite function, a base sequence having a biological function, which is the same or different from the above-described function, in a reading frame different from the reading frame of the amino acid sequence having the definite function as described above and having no stop codon in any of three reading frames is selected by using a computer-aided technique to thereby construct a microgene. Then this microgene is polymerized in such a manner as to allow the appearance of plural reading frames to give an artificial gene. As the translation product of this artificial gene, an artificial protein is obtained.
