Abstract:
A polymer composite which is excellent in mechanical properties such as restorability and impact resistance, coatability and adhesiveness, and wherein preferably the dispersed phases are distributed uniformly. It is produced by polymerizing a vinylic monomer selected from among styrenic monomers, acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids, anhydrides thereof and esters thereof in the presence of both a rubbery copolymer and a thermoplastic resin selected from among polyolefins, polyamides, polyimides, polyarylene ethers, polyacetals and polyesters in the substantial absence of any solvent. It is preferable that part of the vinylic monomer be grafted onto the rubber copolymer and the polyolefin and that the thermoplastic resin form a matrix phase. Most of the polymer composites are produced by kneading the vinylic monomer, rubbery copolymer and thermoplastic resin together under a high shearing force to effect the polymerization of the vinylic monomer and removing an unreacted monomer under a low shearing force. The kneading is carried out on a single- or double-screw extruder with a vent hole. The composite polymer is used as an elastic molding because it is readily moldable and as an adhesive for laminates because it is suitable also as an adhesive.
