In order to provide an electron transporting material that is suitable for forming an organic EL element having an inverted structure by using a wet process, a polymer compound having a triarylphosphine oxide as the skeleton thereof is produced. An organic EL element (110) is constructed by successively forming, on the surface of a substrate (101), a cathode (102), an electron injection layer (104), a light emission layer (105), a hole transport layer (106), a hole injection layer (107), and an anode (108). The electron injection layer (104) is formed by applying, between banks (103), an ink prepared by dissolving said polymer compound into an alcohol solvent, and drying the ink. The light emission layer (105) is formed by applying, between the banks (103), an ink prepared by dissolving, into a nonpolar solvent, a light-emission-layer material such as a polyphenylenevinylene (PPV) derivative or a polyfluorene derivative, and drying the ink.
