Abstract:

The present invention provides: a polymer electrolyte composition having superior utility by having superior chemical stability able to withstand a strongly oxidizing atmosphere during fuel cell operation and moreover being able to achieve physical durability, superior mechanical strength, and superior proton conductivity under low humidification conditions; and a solid polymer fuel cell, membrane-electrode assembly, and polymer electrolyte membrane using the polymer electrolyte composition. The polymer electrolyte membrane contains at least a polyazole and an ionic-group-containing polymer electrolyte, wherein a separation of phases of 2 nm or greater having the polyazole as the primary component is not observed under transmission electron microscope.
