Provided is a polymeric dispersant to be incorporated for producing an aqueous pigment dispersion capable of giving a water-based ink-jet ink in which the pigment is stably and highly finely dispersed and with which images excellent in terms of adhesion and durability can be recorded on plastic media or cloth. The polymeric dispersant, which is for dispersing pigments, is to be incorporated in producing an aqueous pigment dispersion for use in water-based ink-jet inks for plastic-medium printing or textile printing and is a polymer satisfying the requirement (1), etc. Requirement (1): To contain a structural unit (i) derived from styrene, a structural unit (ii) derived from methyl methacrylate, etc., a structural unit (iii) derived from 2-ethylhexyl methacrylate, etc., a structural unit (iv) derived from 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, etc., and a structural unit (v) derived from methacrylic acid, at least some of the carboxy groups having been neutralized with an alkali.
