Abstract:
 Provided are a polyolefin multilayer microporous membrane and a battery separator having exceptional mechanical strength and heat resistance. This polyolefin multilayer microporous membrane has at least three layers, including a first microporous layer (a surface layer) comprising a polyethylene resin that contains an ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene, and second microporous layer (an intermediate layer) comprising a polyolefin resin that contains a high-density polyethylene and polypropylene, (I) the piercing strength being 25 g/µm or greater, (II) the static coefficient of friction relative to aluminum foil being 0.40 or greater, and (III) the meltdown temperature being 180°C or greater.
