Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a highly flame-retarded poly(phenylene ether) resin composition which, even when having ignited, efficiently forms bulky porous char serving as a combustion-barrier layer, thereby attaining reductions in calorific value and smoke emission during the combustion, and which is easy to color. The poly(phenylene ether) resin composition of the present invention comprises (A) a poly(phenylene ether), (C) an organic sulfonic acid and/or an alkali metal salt of an organic sulfonic acid, and (D) an aromatic phosphoric ester flame retardant, and is characterized in that the poly(phenylene ether) (A) is contained in an amount of 50 mass% or larger of the poly(phenylene ether) resin composition, the amount of which is taken as 100 mass%, and that the composition has a maximum heat release rate (HRR(max)), as determined with a cone calorimeter in accordance with ISO 5660-1, of 250 kW/m2 or less.
