Abstract:
The present invention is a composition (D) which contains a modified polyvinyl alcohol (A) and an unsaturated monocarboxylic acid or a salt thereof (B), and which is characterized in that: the modified polyvinyl alcohol (A) has a viscosity average polymerization degree of from 400 to 3,500 (inclusive) and a saponification degree of from 68% by mole to 99.9% by mole (inclusive), while having from 0.01% by mole to 1.50% by mole (inclusive) of an acryloyl group or a methacryloyl group in a side chain; the unsaturated monocarboxylic acid or a salt thereof (B) is at least one compound that is selected from the group consisting of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, sodium acrylate and sodium methacrylate; and the mass ratio (modified polyvinyl alcohol (A))/(unsaturated monocarboxylic acid or a salt thereof (B)) in the composition (D) is from 82/18 to 99.9/0.1. Consequently, the present invention provides a composition containing a modified polyvinyl alcohol, which exhibits excellent water solubility, storage stability and polymerization stability of a vinyl compound.
