Abstract:

[Problem] To make the face surface of a poppet valve more uniform in rigidity and strength, the poppet valve being manufactured by forging. [Solution] Provided is a method for manufacturing a poppet valve 10 by forging, the poppet valve 10 being provided with an umbrella section 14 located at one longitudinal end of a shaft section 12 and having a face surface N. In the intermediate umbrella section 14' of a partially finished poppet valve 10', when the face surface N of the umbrella section 14 after forging is used as a reference, a bulge 15 having a crest 15a positioned in the direction of a line K2 normal to the face surface N is provided in a region which is to be the face surface N after forging. In a cross-sectional view, the crest 15a of the bulge 15 is located on the normal line K2 passing through a reference point P3 set on an imaginary line (line K) which connects a base point P1 on the inner diameter side of the face surface N and a base point P2 on the outer diameter side, and when viewed along the center axis X1 of the shaft section 12, the position of the reference point P3 is set so that the relationship between the length L1 from the base point P1 on the inner diameter side to the reference point P3 and the length L2 from the base point P2 on the outer diameter side to the reference point P3 satisfy the relationship of L1/L2 ≤0.5.
