Abstract:
Provided are a porous aluminum composite of high quality having exceptional joint strength between a porous aluminum body and an aluminum bulk body, and a method for manufacturing the porous aluminum composite. This porous aluminum composite (10) is produced by joining a porous aluminum body (30) that comprises aluminum or an aluminum alloy, and an aluminum bulk body (20) that comprises aluminum or an aluminum alloy, wherein a Ti-Al-based compound is present in joined portions (15) of the porous aluminum body (30) and the aluminum bulk body (20). In preferred practice, the outer surface of the porous aluminum body (30) and/or the aluminum bulk body (20) has formed thereon a plurality of pillar-shaped protrusions (32) that protrude towards the outside, and has joined portions (15) in the pillar-shaped protrusions (32).
