Title:
PORTABLE CAR CRUSHER
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1988/003867
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A portable car crusher is formed from a lower base table, with a central pivot supported at each end by a pillar, upon which a lever arm is mounted. Each lever arm is attached at one end of a hydraulic cylinder, and at the other to a link. This link connects with the pressure pad. The other end of the hydraulic cylinder is attached to a compression block which can be retained by clamps. By sequential operation of the hydraulic cylinders and retaining clamps, the pressure pads can be brought to bear upon the vehicle shell in stages, until complete compression is achieved. The portable car crusher is provided with a means whereby the lever arms are capable, together with the hydraulic cylinders of retaining a set of wheels to render the unit mobile.

CLAIMS
1. A portable car crusher comprising a lower base table, at each end of which is a central pivot, whereat a lever arm is mounted, having either a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder at one end which is also connected to a compression block, the other end of each lever arm is connected by a link to a pressure pad, wherein by sequential steps, performed by operation of the cylinders, the pressure pads are brought to bear upon the vehicle shell, further such operation of the cylinders, combined with leverage about the central pivot causes further crushing to take place, by then releasing clamps on the compression block, further operation of the cylinders, causes each compression block to move and thereby achieve final compression. A portable car crusher according to Claim 1, wherein a clamp is provided to retain each compression block. A portable car crusher according to Claims 1 and 2, wherein compression blocks, central pivots and pressure pads are provided at either end of the lower base table. A portable car crusher according to Claims 1 to 3, wherein the lower base table carries side pillars to support the central pivots. A portable car crusher according to Claims 1 to 4, herein the cylinders are connected at one end to the lever arm, and at the other end to the compression block by bearings which are free to rotate, the cylinders not being held otherwise. A portable car crusher according to Claims 1 to 5,wherein the toggle link between the lever arms and the pressure pad are connected by bearings at each end which are free to rotate. A portable car crusher according to Claims 1 to 6, wherein the lever arms are capable, together with the hydraulic cylinders, of retaining a set of wheels to render the car crusher mobile. A portable car crusher of a form substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
Description:
PORTABLE CAR CRUSHER

It takes four stages to completely crush a car shell. After each cycle of the Crusher, the car shell is fed through a stage further.

A Portable Car Crusher is provided, which is formed from a lower base table, and two unconnected pressure pads (E.E 1 ). To one end of each of these pressure pads is connected a link (B,B')» which in turn is connected to one end of each of the lever arms (D,D')« The lever arms are each mounted on a central pivot.

To the other end of the lever arms are attached either an hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder (A,A*). Each end of the cylinders are connected by bearings which are free to rotate. The other ends of these cylinders are attached to a compression block (F,F').

By operating cylinder (A,A*), pressure pad (E.E 1 ) is brought to bear at an angle, onto the vehicle shell, compressing it partly.

By further operation of Cylinder (A,A') and by leverage about the central pivot, further pressure is brought about the vehicle shell, thereby crushing it further. Clamps retaining compression block (F.F 1 ) are released, and by further operation of cylinder (A,A' ) the compression block (F,F ! ) is brought to bear against the partly crushed vehicle shell, until final compression is achieved.

The crusher is also provided with a means whereby a set of wheels can be clamped between the lever arms and the cylinders, enabling the unit to be mobile.
