This invention relates to a portable sanitary washing device used so as to maintain a healthy and sanitary life. In order to secure sufficiently large washing power and water storage capacity of this light and compact sanitary washing device without using a power source or a battery, a container (1) in which cold water or hot water is stored, and a hollow elastic member (2) having the function of a manual pump and connected at the upper portion thereof to a nozzle are joined to each other unitarily at their respective lower portions via a check valve (3). When the water is injected into this washing device, not only the container (1) but also the hollow elastic member (2) is filled therewith at once. Therefore, the hollow elastic member also has the water storage function. This enables the outer sizes of the washing device to be set relatively small for its water storage capacity. Moreover, the wash water can be ejected even on an initial pumping operation, so that a pump priming operation, which is carried out in a conventional manual pump, is not required. In the sanitary washing device according to the present invention, a large washing power can be maintained by operating the pump repeatedly. The present invention has further created a novel water suction mechanism for a pump, and a novel check valve to be provided in a nozzle. The present invention is most suitably used to wash the anus after emptying the bowels, because of its large washing power and large water storage capacity.
