A portable terminal comprises a wireless public line communication unit for performing communication via a wireless public line network, a short−range wireless communication unit for performing direct wireless communication with a terminal existing within a short range, a communication history storage unit where the history of communication using the wireless public line communication unit is stored, and a control unit for controlling these units. The control unit searches for another portable terminal existing within a short range by means of the short−range wireless communication unit, refers to the communication history storage unit of the found portable terminal while allowing the found portable terminal to refer to the communication history storage unit of the portable terminal, and alerts the user to the approach of the another portable terminal by means of an altering means when the communication history with the another portable terminal is present in the communication history storage units of the two portable terminals.
