Abstract:
This position detecting device includes a first bridge circuit 31 which outputs a SIN signal in accordance with the movement of a magnet moving in a magnetization direction, and a second bridge circuit 32 which outputs a COS signal. A region determining means including a magnetic field direction detecting sensor is used to assess whether the magnet is on one side in the direction of movement relative to a central portion of the bridge circuit, or is on the other side in the axial direction. An ATAN2 value including a main region signal and a shift region signal is computed on the basis of the SIN signal and the COS signal, and the position of the magnet is computed on the basis of a signal from the magnetic field direction detecting sensor and the ATAN2 value.
