Title:
POSITION DETECTOR USING MAGNETIC BEARING SPINDLE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1998/057776
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A position detector using a magnetic bearing spindle with which both working and position detection can be made. The magnetic bearing spindle (20) is moved toward a work (3) on the X-Y coordinates and a tool (31) is brought into contact with a prescribed reference surface (line) of the work (3). When the tool (31) is brought into contact with the reference surface (line), the instantaneous deflection of the tool (31) is transmitted to the main shaft (1) of the spindle (20). An electric current is made to flow to a radial electromagnet (23) in the direction to suppress the current induced by the deflection of the shaft (1). The current thus fluctuated is detected by means of a current fluctuation detector (35). A position detector (37) calculates the position on the plane coordinates where the tool (31) comes into contact with the work (3) from the moving distance, moving direction, etc., of the main shaft (1) based on the current fluctuation. In addition, the current fluctuation in the direction of the Z-coordinate, namely in the vertical direction, is also calculated similarly by means of an electromagnet (27) disposed in the axial direction, etc.
