Abstract:

Provided is a position indicator that makes it possible to detect a pen pressure or the like by a position detection device by eliminating the effect of the surrounding environment such as peripheral metals while taking into consideration the compatibility with existing position detection devices. The present invention comprises: a first resonant circuit that is configured to include an inductance element and an electrostatic capacitance element; a second resonant circuit that is configured to include the first resonant circuit and a changing element that causes an electrical element value to change, the electrical element value causing the resonant frequency or the phase to change in association with a gesture of the user; and a switch circuit that switches between the first resonant circuit and the second resonant circuit. The switch circuit performs switching so as to select, as a resonant circuit that is to electromagnetically couple with a conductor of a sensor of a position detection device, the second resonant circuit in a case where a signal is not received from the outside and in a case where a signal other than a prescribed signal is received from the outside, and the first resonant circuit in a case where the prescribed signal is received from the outside.
