Patent Literature 1 : Japanese Patent No. 5285564 Summary

Technical Problem

In the above-described conventional position light structure for a motorcycle, the light-emitting unit (104) (LED substrate unit) can be arranged in the front cowl having a relatively wide space, but when such a structure is applied to a handle cover, it is difficult to secure space for the LED substrate unit to be arranged. In particular, when winker lights are arranged in the handle cover, a design scheme or special consideration, for example, to arrange the LED substrate unit is necessary.

The present invention has been made in view of such circumstances and aims to provide a position light structure for a motorcycle that, in a handle cover in which LED position lights and winker lights are arranged, enables the LED substrate unit to be easily arranged. Solution to Problem

As the invention according to Claim 1 , in a position light structure for a motorcycle in which LED position lights and winker lights are arranged in a handle cover, winker reflectors of the winker lights are formed integrally with the handle cover, and LED substrate units having LED substrates of the LED position lights are attached to rear surfaces of the winker reflectors.

As the invention according to Claim 2, in the position light structure for a motorcycle according to Claim l ,the LED position light each includes a light guide that guides light of an LED emitted from the corresponding LED substrate, the light guide is arranged in front of each of the winker reflectors, the light emitted from the LED is guided forward of each reflector through an opening part formed on each of the winker reflectors, and light of the position lights is emitted forward of the handle cover by the emitted light of the light guide.

As the invention according to Claim 3, in the position light structure for a motorcycle according to Claim 2, the LED position lights each includes an inner lens in front of the light guide, the inner lens is arranged at a periphery of each of the winker reflectors, and a plurality of holes through which light of the light guide is allowed to pass and a portion covering the opening part are formed on the inner lens.

As the invention according to Claim 4, in the position light structure for a motorcycle according to Claim 3, the inner lens and the light guide are fastened together on each of the winker-light reflectors with a jointly fastening screw.

As the invention according to Claim 5, in the position light structure for a motorcycle according to Claim 4, positioning ribs are formed each on both ends and a central portion of the light guide, and on one end thereof, a fitted portion is formed through which and through a hole of each of the winker reflectors the jointly fastening screw is inserted into a boss formed on the inner lens to enable the fastening with the jointly fastening screw.

As the invention according to Claim 6, in the position light structure for a motorcycle according to Claim 2, a lens cut is formed on the light guide or on a portion behind the light guide in each of the winker-light reflectors.

As the invention according to Claim 7, in the position light structure for a motorcycle according to Claim 5, on the light guide, a light-incident portion is formed that allows the light guide to face the LED through the opening part, sealing means is provided that is capable of sealing between a perimeter of the opening part and each of the LED substrate units, and the jointly fastening screw is positioned within a range sealed by the sealing means.

As the invention according to Claim 8, in the position light structure for a motorcycle according to Claim 7, on the fitted portion and each of the winker reflectors, a pin and a pin hole are respectively formed that allow visual confirmation of attachment of the light guide when correctly attached, from the rear side of each of the reflectors.

As in the invention according to Claim 9, in the position light structure for a motorcycle according to Claim 8, the pin and the pin hole are positioned within the range sealed.

Advantageous Effects of Invention

According to the invention of Claim 1 , winker reflectors are formed integrally with a handle cover. Thus, a wider space in the handle cover can be secured than in a structure in which separate winker lights are attached to the handle cover, and also LED substrate units having LED substrates of LED position lights can be attached to rear surfaces of reflectors of the winker lights by utilizing this space. Consequently, the LED position lights can be easily and effectively arranged in the handle cover in which the winker lights are arranged, which makes it possible to provide modern and unique designs for the winkers and the position lights in the handle cover.

According to the invention of Claim 2, in each LED position light, a light guide that guides light of an LED emitted from each LED substrate is arranged in front of each winker reflector so that the LED-emitted light can be guided from an opening part formed on each reflector. This enables emitted light of the position lights to be effectively guided forward even if the LED substrate units are arranged in any position behind the reflectors.

Accordingly, arrangement flexibility of the LED substrate units further increases, making it possible to provide an LED position light structure that is more preferable for a structure including winker reflectors integrated into a handle cover.

According to the invention of Claim 3, in front of the light guide, an inner lens is provided that has a plurality of holes through which light of the light guide is allowed to pass and covers the opening part of each reflector. This makes it possible to optionally create the design of holes through which emitted light from the light guide is visible while effectively hiding the opening part of each reflector. Thus, a structure having high design flexibility can be provided.

According to the invention of Claim 4, the inner lens and the light guide are fastened together on each winker reflector with a jointly fastening screw, whereby the accuracy of relative position between the inner lens and the light guide can be increased, and thus the position lights can be illuminated at desired positions. Furthermore, operation of attaching the inner lens and the light guide can be easily and smoothly performed, and also cost can be reduced by reducing the number of components.

According to the invention of Claim 5, positioning ribs are formed each on both ends and a central portion of the light guide, and on one end thereof, a fitted portion is formed through which the jointly fastening screw is inserted into a boss formed on the inner lens to enable the fastening with the jointly fastening screw. This makes it possible to increase the accuracy of relative attachment position between the inner lens and the winker reflector while minimizing the portion fastened with the screw.

According to the invention of Claim 6, a lens cut is formed on the light guide or on a portion positioned behind the light guide in each winker reflector. This lens cut can reflect forward light beam traveling rearward in addition to light beams traveling forward from the light guide, which makes it possible to secure a desired amount of light emission even with light beams of position lights that are attenuated by the light guide.

According to the invention of Claim 7, at the opening part of each winker reflector, sealing means for sealing between the winker reflector and the lens is provided, which prevents influence on the lens or a bulb of the winker due to water intrusion. In addition, the jointly fastening screw is positioned within a range thus sealed, which eliminates the necessity of separately sealing the jointly fastening screw with the sealing means, and thus the number of components can be reduced.

According to the invention of Claim 8, a pin is provided to the fitted portion of the light guide and also a pin hole is formed on each reflector. This facilitates the fastening of the light guide because whether the light guide is correctly set on the reflector at the fastened portion (jointly fastened portion) can be checked even when the light guide is configured to be fastened from the rear side of the winker reflector.

Description of Embodiments

An embodiment of the present invention will be described hereinafter in detail with reference to the drawings. As depicted in Figs. 1 and 2, a position light structure for a motorcycle according to the present embodiment is applied to a motorcycle having a front cover F attached above a front wheel T, a pair of right and left leg shields S, and a handle cover 1 attached covering the front of a handle H. In the handle cover 1 , a left winker light 2a and a right winker light 2b are arranged on both sides thereof, respectively on the left and right sides, and also a headlight 3 is arranged in the center. In the drawings, reference signs 2aa and 2ba denote winker bulbs of the left winker light 2a and the right winker light 2b, respectively, and reference sign 3 a denotes a headlight bulb of the headlight 3.

Respective reflectors L of the winker lights (the left winker light 2a and the right winker light 2b) arranged in the motorcycle are formed integrally with the handle cover 1 , and are covered by respective winker lenses R attached to the front thereof, as depicted in Fig. 5. Particularly, in the motorcycle to which the present embodiment is applied, as depicted in Figs. 1 to 9, LED position lights 4 are arranged at peripheries of the respective reflectors L of the left winker light 2a and the right winker light 2b. For the headlight, a separate headlight unit is attached to the handle cover.

These LED position lights 4, which can be illuminated by LED substrate units 5a and 5b (see Fig. 3) attached to rear surfaces of the reflectors L, each have a light guide 6 and an inner lens 7 that are attached to a front surface of each reflector L as depicted in Fig. 5. Specifically, in the LED position lights 4 according to the present embodiment, the light guide 6 and the inner lens 7 are arranged at a front periphery of each reflector L of the left winker light 2a and the right winker light 2b, and the LED substrate units 5 a and 5b are arranged at rear surfaces of the respective reflectors L.

As depicted in Figs. 3 and 4, the LED substrate unit 5a is attached to a left rear surface of the handle cover 1 , and is fixed by inserting and screwing three screws nl into corresponding threaded holes n2 formed on the handle cover 1. As depicted in Figs. 12 and 13, the casing of this LED substrate unit 5a includes a housing C I and a clear case C2, and the casing accommodates therein an LED substrate 9 to which an LED 10 is attached. Herein, the clear case C2 is made of a material through which light emitted from the LED 10 can pass.

As depicted in Figs. 3 and 4, the LED substrate unit 5b is attached to a right rear surface of the handle cover 1 , and is fixed by inserting and screwing two screws nl into corresponding threaded holes n2 formed on the handle cover 1 . As depicted in Figs. 14 and 15, the casing of this LED substrate unit 5b includes a housing C I and a clear case C2, and the casing accommodates therein an LED substrate 9 to which an LED 10 is attached.

Herein, the clear case C2 is made of a material through which light emitted from the LED 10 can pass. In a position on an inner surface of the clear case facing the LED, a conical convex portion C2a is formed to project an LED beam. In a position on an outer surface of the clear case that a cylindrical light-incident portion 6a of the light guide faces, three guides C2b are formed that support and position the light-incident portion at an interval of about 120°. This positions the light guide and the LED substrate unit, thereby maintaining the projecting accuracy of the LED and further positioning the winker reflector and a gasket, and thus waterproof performance can be maintained. The unit 5a on the left side of the vehicle body is formed in a shape protruding downward with respect to the unit 5b on the right side (see Figs. 12 and 14), and this protruding portion accommodates drivers (drive circuits) C3 for the right and left LEDs together.

The light guide 6, which is configured to guide light of the LED 10 emitted from the LED substrate 9, is in a shape of a bent pipe member made of a transparent resin as depicted in Fig. 10. The light guide 6 has the light-incident portion 6a on which light of the LED 10 can be made incident, a fitted portion 6b at the center of which an insertion hole 6c is formed, and a plurality of positioning ribs rl to r5. The light-incident portion 6a includes a portion that is formed being bent with respect to the other portions, and can face the LED 10 positioned behind the reflector L through an opening part La (see Fig. 4) formed on the reflector L with the light guide 6 being attached to a surface (front surface ) of the reflector L. By this configuration, light emitted from the LED 10 enters the light guide 6 from the light-incident portion 6a, and is guided in the longitudinal direction of the light guide that is a lateral direction of the vehicle body while being reflected in the light guide as indicated by dashed arrows in Fig. 6.

On the light guide 6 along the longitudinal direction thereof, a lens cut 6d is formed on the side of the winker reflector (on the side of the light guide rear surface) so that light from the LED 10 can be diffused to the surroundings when the light is guided. Thus, light traveling in the light-guide rear surface direction is reflected to the front side, and the light traveling toward the front side is emitted forward from the light guide. On the reflector L of each of the winker lights (the left winker light 2a and the right winker light 2b), as depicted in Fig. 6, a lens cut Lb is formed on a portion positioned behind the light guide 6 so that light emitted rearward from the light guide 6 can be diffusely reflected forward. These two lens cuts 6b and Lb make it possible to effectively emit forward the light beams from the LED traveling rearward of the winker, which eliminates the necessity of using a high-luminance LED even when an illumination system using the light guide is adopted.

The positioning ribs rl to r5, which position and attach the light guide 6 to predetermined positions of the reflector L, are formed on both ends and a central portion of the light guide 6. As depicted in Fig. 6 and Figs. 8 and 9, the positioning ribs rl to r5 are inserted into recessed portions formed at the predetermined positions of the reflector L and thus can position the light guide 6. The fitted portion 6b is formed near the light-incident portion 6a, and on this fitted portion 6b, a positioning pin pi is formed. Inserting the positioning pin pi into a pin hole Ld formed at a predetermined position of the reflector L (see Fig. 6) can position the light-incident portion 6a and prevent the light guide 6 from rotating when attaching the light guide 6.

When a jointly fastening screw B is fastened to the fitted portion 6b of the light guide 6 from the rear side of the winker reflector L, whether the light guide 6 is correctly set cannot be checked from the rear side of the reflector on the fastening side. However, it can be confirmed with the pin pi and the pin hole Ld that the light guide is correctly set when the pin pi is completely inserted into the pin hole Ld, and thus the light guide 6 can be fastened to the reflector L even from the rear side of the reflector. In view of this, the pin pi and the pin hole Ld are positioned within a range sealed by a gasket 8 similarly to the jointly fastening screw B.

As can be understood by this description, the space between the winker reflector L and the winker lens R is usually enclosed, and thus even if the opening part La for the light guide 6, an insertion hole Lc for the jointly fastening screw, and the pin hole Ld are formed, three holes can be sealed within an area range of one gasket 8. Thus, the space between the reflector L and the lens R can be effectively kept enclosed. Consequently, even if a structure is adopted in which an LED substrate unit is attached to the rear side of each winker reflector and then an opening part is formed on the reflector for a light guide to emit light forward, an enclosed space inside the winker can also be maintained.

The fitted portion 6b includes a portion formed on one end of the light guide 6 (positioned on the inner side of the vehicle body when being attached to the vehicle body).

Through the fitted portion 6b, the jointly fastening screw B is inserted into a boss 7b (see Fig. 1 1 ) formed on the inner lens 7 to enable the fastening with the jointly fastening screw B. Specifically, as depicted in Fig. 1 1 , a threaded hole 7c is formed on the boss 7b of the inner lens 7. As depicted in Fig. 7, by screwing up the jointly fastening screw B against the reflector L while inserting the jointly fastening screw B into the boss 7b through the insertion hole 6c in the fitted portion 6b of the light guide 6, the light guide 6 and the inner lens 7 can be fastened together. Because the light guide and the inner lens are positioned in front of the winker reflector, the jointly fastening screw is screwed from the rear side of the winker reflector, and accordingly, the screw is screwed under conditions in which both members cannot be seen. However, the above-described structure of the pin pi and the pin hole Ld is configured to enable this screwing.

The inner lens 7 serves as a decorative panel that allows the light guide 6 to be in an illuminating state visible from a desired position in front and covers the other portions so as not to be seen. As depicted in Fig. 1 1 , the inner lens 7 has a plurality of holes 7a through which light of the light guide 6 is allowed to pass, the above-described boss 7b formed on the rear surface, a retaining portion 7d, and a positioning ribs si and s2. The retaining portion 7d includes a portion that can cover and retain the circumference surface of the light guide 6, and has the holes 7a aligned in the longitudinal direction, four on each of a right and left pair aligned in a row. In the inner lens 7 according to the present embodiment, on the front surface or the rear surface thereof, a plating process (aluminum vapor deposition process, etc.) for preventing light of the light guide 6 from passing therethrough is performed, and thus the light guided in the light guide 6 is emitted forward only from the holes 7a.

In order to disperse the light from the light guide 6 while hiding the boss 7b on the rear surface and the light-incident portion of the light guide, and the opening part of the winker reflector, a decorative portion 7e having designed protrusions and grooves on the front surface is formed continuously from the retaining portion 7d, and the inner lens 7 is formed in an L-shape as a whole. Incidentally, in the inner lens 7, the portion which is not plated (the grey-colored portion in the figure) comprises a blue lens which permits the light to pass therethrough, and on the periphery of the hole 7a, plating is performed on the blue lens so that the plated portion does not permit the light to pass therethrough.

With the light guide 6 being retained by the inner lens 7, the light guide 6 and the inner lens 7 are attached to each of the reflectors L of the winker lights (the left winker light

2a and the right winker light 2b) with the jointly fastening screw from the rear side, and the front side of the inner lens 7 is covered by the winker lens R in an enclosed manner so that these components are assembled together. Specifically, the light guide 6 and the inner lens 7 are covered by the winker lens together with each of the winker bulbs 2aa and 2ba of the winker lights (the left winker light 2a and the right winker light 2b).

In the present embodiment, to enclose the space in the winker in a waterproof manner, as depicted in Figs. 4 and 7, the gasket 8 (sealing means) is provided to seal between the perimeter of the opening part La formed on each of the reflectors L of the winker lights (the left winker light 2a and the right winker light 2b) and each of the LED substrate units (5a, 5b). Herein, the jointly fastening screw B is positioned within a range sealed by this gasket 8. Specifically, on each of the reflectors L of the winker lights (the left winker light 2a and the right winker light 2b), the opening part La that allows the light- incident portion 6a of the light guide 6 to face the LED 10 is formed, and the perimeter of the opening part La is sealed by the gasket 8. This prevents rainwater, for example, from entering the reflector L, and also eliminates the necessity of additionally rendering a portion at the jointly fastening screw B waterproof.

As shown in Fig. 16, the LED substrate unit 5a is attached to the rear side (in the range shown in the figure) of the left winker light 2a, while light guides 6 are arranged in the upper side of the left winker light 2a. One inner lens 7 is arranged in an extended manner from the inner side (left in the figure) of the left winker light 2a toward the upper side. Further, the LED substrate unit 5b is attached to the rear side (in the range shown in the figure) of the right winker light 2b, while light guides 6 are arranged in the upper side of the right winker light 2b. The other inner lens 7 is arranged in an extended manner from the inner side (right in the figure) of the right winker light 2b toward the upper side.

According to the above-described embodiment, winker reflectors are formed integrally with a handle cover 1. Thus, a wider space in the handle cover 1 can be secured than in a structure in which separate winker lights are attached to the handle cover, and also LED substrate units having LED substrates (5a, 5b) of LED position lights 4 can be attached to rear surfaces of reflectors of the winker lights by utilizing this space.

Consequently, the LED position lights 4 can be easily and effectively arranged in the handle cover in which the winker lights are arranged, which makes it possible to provide modern and unique designs for the winkers and the position lights in the handle cover 1.

Each LED position light 4 according to the present embodiment includes the light guide 6 that guides light of an LED 10 emitted from each LED substrate 9 in front of each winker reflector so that the LED-emitted light can be guided from an opening part formed on each reflector. This enables emitted light of the position lights to be effectively guided forward even if the LED substrate units (5a, 5b) are arranged in any position behind the reflectors L. Accordingly, arrangement flexibility of the LED substrate units (5a, 5b) further increases, making it possible to provide an LED position light structure that is more preferable for a structure including winker reflectors integrated into a handle cover 1. Furthermore, the inner lens 7 is provided in front of the light guide 6, the inner lens 7 having a plurality of holes 7a through which light of the light guide is allowed to pass and covers the opening part of each reflector L. This makes it possible to optionally create the design of holes La through which emitted light from the light guide 6 is visible while effectively hiding the opening part of each reflector L. Thus, a structure having high design flexibility can be provided.

Furthermore, the inner lens 7 and the light guide 6 are fastened together on each winker reflector with a jointly fastening screw, whereby the accuracy of relative position between the inner lens 7 and the light guide 6 can be increased, and thus the position lights 4 can be illuminated at desired positions. Furthermore, operation of attaching the inner lens 7 and the light guide 6 can be easily and smoothly performed, and also cost can be reduced by— reducing the number of components.

Furthermore, positioning ribs (rl to r5) are formed each on both ends and a central portion of the light guide 6, and on one end thereof, a fitted portion is formed through which the jointly fastening screw B is inserted into a boss 7a formed on the inner lens to enable the fastening with the jointly fastening screw. This makes it possible to increase the accuracy of relative attachment position between the inner lens 7 and the winker reflector while minimizing the portion fastened with the screw.

Furthermore, a lens cut (6d, Lb) is formed on the light guide 6 or on a portion positioned behind the light guide 6 in each winker reflector. This lens cut (6d, Lb) can reflect forward light beam traveling rearward in addition to light beams traveling forward from the light guide, which makes it possible to secure a desired amount of light emission even with light beams of position lights 4 that are attenuated by the light guide 6.

Further, at the opening part of each winker reflector, gasket 8 (sealing means) for sealing between the winker reflector and the lens is provided, which prevents influence on the lens or a bulb of the winker due to water intrusion. In addition, the jointly fastening screw is positioned within a range thus sealed, which eliminates the necessity of separately sealing the jointly fastening screw with the sealing means, and thus the number of components can be reduced.

Furthermore, a pin is provided to the fitted portion of the light guide 6 and also a pin hole (Ld) is formed on each reflector L. This facilitates the fastening of the light guide because whether the light guide 6 is correctly set on the reflector L at the fastened portion (jointly fastened portion) can be checked even when the light guide 6 is configured to be fastened from the rear side of the winker reflector.

In the foregoing, the present embodiment has been described, but the present invention is not limited to this. For example, the LED position lights 4 may be arranged at other positions on the reflectors L in the winker lights (the left winker light 2a and the right winker light 2b), or the light guide 6 and the inner lens 7 may be formed in other shapes. In the present embodiment, the outer shape and dimensions are different between the left LED substrate unit 5 a and the right LED substrate unit 5b, but the same shape and the same components may be used by distributing LED drive circuits for the respective LED substrate units. Furthermore, other common sealing means may be used instead of the gasket 8

Industrial Applicability

A position light structure for a motorcycle can be applied to those having different outer shapes or those to which another function is added, for example, as long as winker reflectors are formed integrally with a handle cover and also LED substrate units having LED substrates of LED position lights are attached to rear surfaces of reflectors of the winker lights in the structure.
